Y’all, I am a creature of habit. I need my routines.
I have routines for morning and evening, for grocery shopping and meal planning, for getting the laundry done, for exercise, and for almost everything I do in a day. There are times that I think I’m a little too structured and not spontaneous enough, but it’s how my brain works.
Well, this year is shaping up to be a year of big changes. Almost every one of my routines has been demolished. Seriously, I’m a bit of a mess.
I’ve been trying to stick to my previous routines, but with some of the changes in our schedules, they don’t work as effectively as they used to.
Why are my routines so important?
They help make me more efficient
I don’t have to “reinvent the wheel” each time I do my meal planning. I have a routine to do it once a month. I know exactly what to do and I can get it done in a short amount of time.
They help me with decision exhaustion
We all have to make so many decisions each day.
Some are tiny like deciding what to wear and what to make for dinner. Obviously, others are much more significant.
When I use a daily routine, there are so many less decisions to make each day because I know what I need to do. I almost don’t even have to think about it.
They help with my anxiety
I deal with some anxiety and having my routines relaxes me.
For certain parts of the day, I know what’s going to happen and what I need to do. There is a lot less stress in my day because of my routines.

So what do I do now?
Well, I’m not entirely sure!
I’m so kerbobbled (it’s a word), but I know I need to find some new routines, or at least tweak my old ones.
Here’s what I’m working on:
Being open to change
Obviously, if I need to change up my routines, I need to be open to change!
I need to try new things and find what works best. Trial and error. Hopefully, not too much error.
Stop pretending I know it all
I had my previous routines down so perfectly that I could tell you exactly how long it would take for me to get ready in the morning down to the minute.
My routines worked perfectly for me. But they don’t anymore.
I don’t know what’s best and I need to be open to advice and learning new things. I don’t know it all anymore when it comes to my routines.
So stay tuned. Things are changing around here and I need to start rolling with the punches.

I'm a creature of habit myself so I understand! But it is important to learn to go with the punches so when life doesn't work out the way we planned, we're still ok!

I think so many of us are feeling the same way! I just decided to go through a course with a group to create routines if you want to join in!

It's so hard when there's a change in routine. With school starting up again, we'll be going through some changes too. It's always really hard in the beginning, so I have to just remind myself to stick with it, and it will get better.

Ohh! I am so much like you in this sense! I love my routine, and I dislike change to the point that I become a 5-year-old-fit-thower! I have been dealing with change consistently for almost 4 years, and I am still so resistant to it! I like to know what to expect while my husband is the complete opposite!

Haha, it's crazy how much we can rely on our routines. I get so thrown off when things change. I immediately start trying to create a new routine.
