Valentine’s Day is almost here! I pretty much love all holidays and festivities. I think any holiday is a fun break from the everyday and I like to find little ways to make a special day feel special.
Just like with Halloween, I decided to come up with a list of ways to make Valentine’s Day a bit more special that take only 10 minutes or less.
Don’t forget, holidays aren’t just for kids! All of these are fun for adults too. Do them for your spouse, roommate, coworkers… Anyone! Everyone can enjoy some festive fun.
11 Ways to Make Valentine’s Day Special in 10 Minutes or Less
1. Make Heart Shaped Pancakes
If you have a heart-shaped cooking cutter, just set it on your pan and pour pancake batter in. Let the pancakes cook most of the way before removing the cookie cutter and flipping them.
You can also load your batter into a squirt bottle and draw the heart onto the hot pan as an alternative method.
2. Write Lovey Notes for Lunches
Take a few minutes to write a sweet note for your spouse, kids, boyfriend, roommate… whoever! Sneak it into their lunch sack in the morning so they have a nice surprise later on.
3. Wear All Pink and Red
Part of having a fun and festive Valentine’s Day is just doing something on purpose to make it fun. Make a point of picking out a pink or red outfit. Or go nuts and wear all pink and red from head to toe!
4. Decorate
I made a stop at the dollar store and they had some adorable Valentine’s Day decor. I’m not say you have to go all out, but why not put out a few things. Cut out some paper hearts or hang some garland. If you’re feeling crafty, Pinterest has no end of adorable ideas.
5. Light Candles for Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Dinner
I’m loving the idea of a candlelit breakfast! It’s dark in the morning while we get ready for work, so it’d be the perfect time to do it.
I’m thinking Austin and I will eat our cereal by candlelight on Valentine’s Day 🙂
6. Decorate the Dinner Table
It’s so rare that we set the table nicely for a meal. Why not bust out a cute tablecloth, light some candles, and decorate the dinner table a bit. A few decorations can make a normal meal feel special, even if it’s frozen pizza.
7. Pick a Romantic Movie to Watch
I know you can’t watch a movie in 10 minutes, but you can pick one out for later. I’m going to list a few of my favorite chick flicks — leave your fav in the comments!!
- How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days “Our love fern — you killed it!”
- 10 Things I Hate About You — the part where he dances and sings on the bleachers… love it!
- Dirty Dancing “Nobody puts Baby in a corner…”
- Sweet Home Alabama
- She’s All That — did you realize that Gus from Psych in is this?
- Clueless
- 27 Dresses
- You’ve Got Mail — the sound of the internet connecting is just hilarious now
Clearly I only like movies from the 90s and early 2000s…
8. Flip Through Photos with Your Person
You know how often we look through our wedding album? Never. That’s how often.
Valentine’s day is such a nice time to look through old pictures with your spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend and enjoy some happy memories.
9. Get Extra Snazzy
Make Valentine’s Day fun and special by spending an extra 10 minutes getting ready. I might actually put on makeup and perfume.
10. Have a Special Snack
I know this one is a stretch but I’m always looking for an excuse to eat donuts. Plan a special snack. Have donuts and hot cocoa or some other treat.
11. Read About The History of Valentine’s Day
I love knowing the history behind holidays. Spend a few minutes reading about the history of Valentine’s Day — no, it wasn’t created by greeting card companies. There are a few versions of it’s origin, though. Start here to learn more.
Celebrating holidays doesn’t have to equal big grand events. Any treat out of the ordinary can make the day feel fun and exciting.
With just 10 minutes you can make Valentine’s Day more festive for yourself and those around you.
